Mahindra has officially entered the three-row electric SUV segment in India with the launch of the XEV 9S. The electric SUV is priced from Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 29.45 lakh for the top-end variant. The XEV 9S is positioned as the electric sibling of the popular XUV700 but comes with significant upgrades in design, performance and technology.

Test drives for the Mahindra XEV 9S will begin from December 5, while bookings will open on January 14. Deliveries are scheduled to start from January 23, 2026.

Mahindra XEV 9S Battery Options and Power Output

Mahindra is offering the XEV 9S with three different battery pack options to suit varied customer requirements. These include 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs.

The 59 kWh variant delivers 228 bhp, while the newly introduced 70 kWh version produces 241 bhp. The top-spec 79 kWh battery pack generates an impressive 282 bhp. All three variants produce a strong 380 Nm of torque, ensuring quick acceleration and confident highway performance.

Mahindra claims that the XEV 9S can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just seven seconds, with the top-end variant offering performance levels similar to premium luxury electric SUVs.

Mahindra XEV 9S Exterior Design Highlights

The XEV 9S features Mahindra’s new-generation electric design language. At the front, it gets a closed-off grille, L-shaped LED daytime running lights, vertically stacked projector headlamps and a full-width LED light bar. Flush-fitted door handles enhance the aerodynamic profile, while the side profile is complemented by aero-optimised alloy wheels and roof rails.

The overall design gives the SUV a futuristic yet rugged road presence, clearly differentiating it from its ICE-powered sibling.

Interior and Comfort Features of Mahindra XEV 9S

Inside the cabin, the Mahindra XEV 9S offers a premium, tech-forward environment. It comes with a three-screen dashboard layout, additional screens for second-row passengers, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon premium sound system, ambient lighting and a powered tailgate.

Second-row passengers also get reclining seats, while higher variants offer features like ventilated second-row seats, dynamic ambient lighting and an in-cabin camera for live monitoring. The inclusion of an AR-based head-up display further adds to the futuristic driving experience.

Safety Features and ADAS Technology

On the safety front, Mahindra has loaded the XEV 9S with advanced technology. It gets up to seven airbags including a knee airbag, along with brake-by-wire and blind view monitoring.

The SUV also offers Level 2+ ADAS with features such as intelligent emergency braking and multiple radar-based driver assistance systems. Higher variants get Mahindra’s Secure360 Pro system, which provides live vehicle surveillance through the connected car app.

Mahindra XEV 9S Price Range and Top Variant Highlights

The Mahindra XEV 9S is priced between Rs 19.95 lakh for the base 59 kWh version and Rs 29.45 lakh for the fully-loaded Pack Three Above variant. During the launch presentation, Mahindra positioned the top variant as a direct alternative to luxury electric SUVs priced around Rs 80 lakh.

The top-spec model offers a 79 kWh battery, 282 bhp output, 7-seater layout, 394 litres of boot space, a 150-litre front storage compartment, a 10.9-metre turning circle and a top speed of 200 kmph. These figures make it one of the most powerful and feature-rich electric SUVs in its segment.

Final Verdict

With the launch of the XEV 9S, Mahindra has significantly raised the bar in the Indian electric SUV market. Its combination of long-range battery options, powerful performance, premium features, advanced safety systems and competitive pricing makes it a strong contender against both mass-market and luxury electric SUVs.
